FITLIFE spends some time with High School Volleyball player Nicole Shuhandler

Today I sat down with one of our outstanding high school student athletes, Notre Dame Prep senior volleyball player, Nicole Shuhandler.  Having my job is great because of the people I get to meet and work with every day.  I really enjoy being around athletes of all ages but the high school ones are special as I get to impact their success and help them with any set backs. This one has more success to come!

Nicole started training here at FITLIFE Health Systems in November of 2015.  She was referred by coach Ben Lee from Revolution Volleyball.  Ben was providing her private lessons at the time and he felt that she needed our help in her pursuit of playing at the college level. At the time she began training with us, Nicole had a lot of raw athletic talent and drive and needed a push to get stronger, more explosive and quicker. She entered into our PASSS program and has been steadily improving ever since.

As you can probably tell by these pictures, Nicole is slightly taller than me. Hard to believe I know. Nicole only started playing volleyball in high school as a Freshman and today is a 6’1” Middle Blocker. Her high school accolades include; All Region her junior and senior year and senior year 1st-Team All-Conference.  As a dominant force on the court she has spent the last few years getting her body ready for the next level by playing for both her high school team, club team and working out at FITLIFE. She is always a joy to have in the gym sporting a smile no matter what workout we throw her way.

Our sports physiologist, Ashley Stein, has spent a good amount of time challenging Nicole to push her body to its limits, concentrating on form than building up volume. Nicole is easily one of the strongest girls we’ve had come through FITLIFE and like most girls her favorite day is, leg day! Her hard work and determination on and off the court have lead her to an opportunity to play at the next level, Division 1 College Athletics. This summer she will be headed west to Cal State Fullerton on a full ride to pursue her dreams of playing college volleyball. Nicole is an inspiration to other athletes we have in the gym and we will surely miss her positive attitude next year! We are proud to be apart of her journey and know she will succeed.

Nicole is performing a Hang Clean power exercise. We know that she will be required to know how to lift properly once she gets to Fullerton and she works hard on perfecting her lifting techniques.

I hope you enjoyed meeting another FITLIFE client and if you happen to see Nicole in the gym join us in wishing  her good luck in the fall!

Have a safe and healthy weekend!
