AT Spotlight: Barton Anderson

FITLIFE is excited to welcome Barton Anderson to the team. Check out the Q & A to get to know him!

Barton Anderson

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

A: I’m a Native Missourian, the oldest of three.  Most of my family still lives in the Midwest.  I grew up in a small town of about 11,000.  I went to school at Missouri State and then moved back home to work for a couple of years before coming to Arizona to get my master’s degree in 2001 (during that time I did a clinical rotation at FITLIFE, which was when I first met John!).  I fell in love with the climate, culture, and character of the Valley of the Sun and was fortunate to be able to return permanently in 2008.

Q: Why are you proud to be an athletic trainer?

A: Athletic trainers represent a unique side of healthcare because they are able to get to know their clients and patients before they are injured.  Being able to help others help themselves is the most rewarding part of my job, whether that is teaching students how to become better athletic trainers, or helping clients get more fun and enjoyment out of their lives and fitness activities.

Q: What are your favorite forms of exercise?

A: I geek out when it comes to rehab and exercise, especially when thinking about the sensorimotor system and motor control.  So, my favorite exercises are body weight activities that really challenge coordination, core stability, and neuromuscular control.  I also enjoy good old fashioned heavy lifts like bench press, dead lifts, and squats!

Q: What do you hope to add or bring to FITLIFE?

A: I hope I can add new perspectives on corrective exercise and training to the group, and that I am able to continue to grow and develop my own skills every day.

Q: If you were an animal, which one would you want to be? Why?

A cat.  They are independent, quick, and super flexible!

Barton received his Doctorate of Health Sciences in 2015 and has been a professor at A.T. Still University since 2008. Dr. Anderson is a fantastic clinician and mentor whom I have been honored to work over the past few years. We are happy to have him join the team! Check out his bio for more information!
