Today I’m visiting with an old friend Dr. David Carfagno who founded the Scottsdale Medicine Institute. I met Dave almost 30 years ago when I worked at the Lincoln Institute for Athletic Medicine, an outpatient Sports Medicine Clinic owned by John C. Lincoln (JCL) Hospital. While attending Arizona State University he was required to complete an internship before graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. He decided to contact JCL and lucky for us he landed at Lincoln! Dave and I have stayed in touch over the years and this year he graciously agreed to be FITLIFE Health Systems sideline physician at Salt River High School. Dr. Carfagno really enjoys sports and his commitment say it all.
Dr. Carfagno has dedicated his life to helping people stay healthy and active. As a physician with extensive background in exercise and sports (he is an athlete himself) he has great insight for treating athletes. Dr. Carfagno enjoys playing soccer, cycling and is a former triathlete and rugby player. Dave also has an impressive educational background. First, he received his Medical Degree from the University of New England, then he went on to complete his Residency in Internal Medicine and finished with a Fellowship in Sports Medicine from the world renown Cleveland Clinic.
Today I caught him for a brief visit. A busy practice and his involvement in the local sports community keep him on the move. Dave is the ringside physician for the Arizona Boxing and MMA Commission, the Assistant National Medical Director for the Rock and Roll Marathons and Tri Rock Triathletes Series and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also has been recognized by his peers being named a “Top Doc” in Phoenix Magazine every year since 2010! Wow! Talk about a busy guy. Guess you can figure out why our visit was brief.
As always, I hope you enjoyed meeting another one of my friends and colleagues who has helped FITLIFE and the many athletes we have worked on together. Have a safe and healthy weekend!
