During my 20 years of directing FITLIFE, I have continually thought about ways to improve our services and facilities and more recently how to help our members achieve our vision for each of them to “Live. All In.” When thinking of that phrase, it begs the question, are we providing our members the training, motivation, information and guidance that they need to succeed in their ability to fulfill this motto. Each person’s individual plan varies but the cornerstones remain the same. From my perspective, our staff has the educational background, interest, commitment and the personal drive to guide our members toward this objective. I hope you all feel the same way and if you Continue reading “FITLIFE OWNER JOHN NEEL SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ON LIVE. ALL IN.”
There is a myriad of core exercises out there today. The main goal of any core exercise is to challenge your trunk strength in a variety of positions. Each person will have a different breaking point. Today’s exercise technique is not for everyone right off the bat, but it is something that everyone should be able to build up to, given enough practice.
The exercise technique we are highlighting this week is one of my personal favorite all inclusive TRX moves. The TRX single leg squat to plank to press is a fairly high level move that requires focus to execute correctly.
Are you a volleyball player or other overhead athlete? Do you have a desk job or are you hunched over a computer for a good chunk of your day? The TRX Y, T, A exercise will help you counteract the forward shoulder position these activities or tasks create. This is a great exercise for Continue reading “Exercise Technique: TRX Y, T, A”
Today I spent some time with a very special person and former FITLIFE client – Edna Thomas. In December of 2000, Edna Thomas walked in to FITLIFE for her initial evaluation. She was referred by her Internal Medicine physician for our LifeStyle Management program to include flexibility, strength and general conditioning. As I reviewed her intake paperwork I couldn’t help but notice that she was born in 1916. Wow! She was 83 years old, looked amazing and acted 20 years younger. Today I spent some time with good friend and FITLIFE member Rich Stark in our gym and at his Gastropub in central Phoenix. Rich came to FITLIFE back in December of 2007, courtesy of our next door neighbors, Foothills Physical Therapy. Like many active people who complete physical therapy, Rich wanted to continue his prescription exercise Continue reading “FITLIFE with Rich Stark, Owner Of The Phoenix Ale Central Kitchen”
Push ups are a great quick exercise, especially during this busy holiday season when time is precious. There are a million push up variations out there…well maybe not a million, but there are a lot. Today we’re going to explore some of the options so you can challenge yourself or mix things up.
Today I am visiting with a a very good friend and FITLIFE Health Systems client, Dr. Marc Bloomenstein, at his office in Scottsdale. Marc is an avid fitness enthusiast who was referred to FITLIFE 3 years ago by our next door neighbors, Foothills Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. Marc began his journey with us in our Functinal Training Program continuing his rehabilitation exercises to return to his fitness activities including hiking, jogging and resistance training. Because of his commitment to fitness, he recovered from his injury, and now continues to use our LifeStyle Management program to improve his overall fitness level. Another busy client with a demanding schedule Marc makes time for himself 3 times a week!
It’s Friday afternoon and time for my next visit. This week I am in the gym at Horizon High School for a volleyball match between Horizon and Desert Mountain with coach Valorie McKenzie. If you have been around volleyball, high school or club, in the Valley at any time over the last 35 years or so you have probably heard of Coach McKenzie.
